Myth #1... You need to use a choke collar to leash train your dog

That's ridiculous! Choke collars do exactly what they sound like - cut off the air supply from your husky! Not only it's not a very effective way to training, but it's also a huge health hazard for your dog!

Myth #2... You need a prong (spike) collar to train a tougher dog

That's stupid. Prong collars jab spikes into your poor husky's neck every time you pull on the leash. But you know what? Most people do NOT need to discipline their dogs this way. This method should only be used by an experienced dog trainer in very rare situations. This should never be used by an average dog owner!

Myth #3... You need a shock collar to stop your dog's barking

This one really makes me mad. It's easy to make your dog stop barking without using inhuman devices such as a SHOCK collar! But guess what.

Studies have shown that shock collars work only a small percentage of the time, nevermind the HUGE damage it causes to your husky's immune system.

Myth #4... You need to dominate your husky using physical force (hitting, smacking, choking)

Okay, your husky needs to view you as the "pack leader", but BEATING your dog isn't the way to do earn RESPECT!! In the wild, a pack leader doesn't snap and beat the pack member into the ground.

The pack leader is always calm, consistent, and fair. So hitting your dog won't make him respect you - but simply make him be afraid of you!

Myth #5... You need to yell at your dog to precieve as "tough"

Eeesh. That's simply dumb. To a dog, yelling sounds like a frantic barking - which confirms in their mind that something is wrong! A good trainer can easily control their dog with a quiet whisper and hand commands.

...and of course, I've heard other crazy training recommendations such as throwing bottlefull of rocks at your husky, putting your husky on prozac, isolating it from the family, and many others.
